Research Interests

My research interests evolve around sustainable agroecosystem management, which includes improving soil quality and health using different tools to understand soil nutrient dynamics and the link to crop and forest productivity. I am also interested in understanding the environmental sustainability and resilience of agroecosystems to weather extremes and disturbance, specifically as it relates to climate change. I use different tools to understand soil-plant-atmosphere transfer of energy, water and greenhouse gases, including in-situ soil and plant measurements, eddy covariance and remote sensing techniques, as well as data analysis tools, including statistical programming and soil-plant-atmosphere models. My work incorporates fundamental laws of thermodynamics, biology, physics and chemistry to tease apart the complex dynamics in ecosystem ecology.
